What is the difference between Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system and a Solar Thermal Geyser?

Solar Photovoltaic (PV) is a technology that uses solar photovoltaic panels to turn sunlight into electricity. Solar Thermal Geyser is a technology that uses energy in the sun’s rays to heat water that is pumped into a solar collector through which tubing is arranged.

Solar photovoltaic panels and certain types of solar collector panels may resemble each other in appearance, but they are not the same thing. They are vastly different in functionality and design.

Are the Solar Geyser Collectors fragile?

All three types of Solar Geyser Collector installed by us are SABS approved and are designed to be very robust.

How long does it take to install my Solar Geyser system?

Under normal circumstances an installation team can install a solar geyser system in one day.

What is the Eskom Solar Water Heating program and how can I benefit from it?

South Africa is facing an electricity shortage with the demand for electricity growing beyond what Eskom can supply. Solar power is one of the most effective renewable energy sources available and one of the most cost effective ways of saving on electricity usage / demand. In order to reduce demand in residential areas Eskom started the Eskom solar water heating rebate program.

In terms of the program Eskom subsidizes a portion of the cost of a solar water heating system. This means that our clients only pay the remaining portion of the purchase price of their solar water heating system. All our solar water heating systems are SABS approved and qualify for the Eskom rebate.

In order to make things even easier for our clients we deduct the Eskom rebate amount upfront and only charge the net purchase amount. This saves our clients the inconvenience of having to wait up to 12 weeks for their rebate.

The rebate amount available are quit substantial and range from R5,196 for a 150 L retrofit to R9,860 for a new complete 300 L indirect system.

Can I use my existing geyser and have it converted into a Solar Geyser System?

Yes it is possible. This is called a retrofit. However, whether your retrofit qualifies under the Eskom rebate program for a rebate will depend on the age, make and size of your geyser.
